Inglorious Bastards - Set for Cannes 2009

If you like the ugly and awesome universe in which director Quentin Tarantino’s visions take place, then his upcoming flick will, without a doubt, fulfill and surpass your expectations. The film, currently in pre-production, is titled Inglorious Bastards and is set to be all wrapped up for Cannes 2009.

Like his previous feature film Kill Bill, Inglorious Bastards is to some extent an offshoot movie, influenced by The Dirty Dozen and Where Eagles Dare. It is a war film set during WWII and is about a team of U.S. soldiers who, at the point of execution, are offered a chance at redemption.

Just to make it clear, this film is not a remake of the 1977 Bo Svenson movie also titled Inglorious Bastards. The movie will be similar to Kill Bill in that revenge is the ultimate theme of the movie. Tarantino referred to this as a "guys-on-a-mission" movie.

Tarantino revealed that between the releases of Jackie Brown and Kill Bill, he was trying to write the script for Inglorious Bastards. Instead of the usual 100 to 200 page script, he wrote a 600 page script in three feature-length parts. This would result in the movie running for about six hours. Due to that length, there have been serious talks of this movie being released into multiple parts, which would be another similarity with Kill Bill (Kill Bill was released in two volumes).

In an interview, Tarantino claimed Inglorious Bastards is the best written script of all his work, which left many of us drooling.

In July, numerous articles popped up, stating Tarantino had released and sent his complete Inglorious Bastards script to Universal Studios, Warner Bros., Sony and Paramount Pictures. The articles also stated that the film would be produced by Lawrence Bender and Harvey Weinstein.

A later update to the article confirmed that Tarantino had spoken with Brad Pitt about starring in the film as the Bastards' leader, scarred hillbilly Lt. Aldo 'The Apache' Raines. Another rumour about Leonardo DiCaprio being considered for the role of Nazi Col. Hans Landa, has since surfaced.

So what elements can we expect to find in Inglorious Bastards, judging from Tarantino's previous work?

The usual references to the Dutch culture in his films will most definitely pop up,an example being the fries with mayo discussion between Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta, in Pulp Fiction.

We'll probably see a cameo from Tarantino himself, as that's the norm in most of his movies, as well as the presence of fictional brands, due to his hatred for product placement (i.e. the 'Red Apple' billboards of top assassin Sofie Fatale in Kill Bill vol.1).

His lead characters usually drive General Motors vehicles, mainly Chevrolet and Cadillac, so we can expect to see this, too. We can also will hope to see a female character wearing a black and white pant suit; Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, Pam Grier in Jackie Brown, and Daryl Hannah in Kill Bill: Vol. 2, all wore similar suits.

And what would a Tarantino flick be without Michael Madsen, heavy gore, and violence?

That's just a few examples. If you want more, I recommend you watch any of the movies mentioned above.

That should give us at least a clue of what he has got instore for us. Until then, Cannes 2009 can't come soon enough.

The Dark Knight steals the show,very unexpected for a superhero movie. This isn't even counting the rest of the world. This movie is currently "the" movie right now, being mentioned everywhere on TV and here in Europe too,hope it keeps up the good work. Maybe this'll teach studios that when they go for a good superhero movie, that they can still get money. Instead of the usually popcorn flick, forgotten after the first time watch, let's bring in easy money movies.

Dark Knight' sets weekend record with $155.34M

According to : LOS ANGELES (AP) - Batman has sent Spidey packing as king of Hollywood's box office superheroes.

"The Dark Knight" took in a record $155.34 million in its first weekend, said Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros., which released the "Batman Begins" sequel.

That topped Hollywood's previous best of $151.1 million, set by "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007.

"We knew it would be big, but we never expected to dominate the marketplace like we did," Fellman said. The movie should shoot past the $200 million mark by the end of the week, he said.

Well, it looks like the industry might finally steer it's way to good comic book movies. I personally I haven't watched "The Dark Knight" yet ( it's not released here in the UK, untill the 24th of July). However, after watching countless YouTube videos of The Joker portrayed more lively by Heath ledger then any fictional character I can think of, it is almost an insurance of the profound level of entertainment hitting this side of the Atlantic, come next week.

WatchMen Begin...

The New Trailer for Watchmen had finally launched, and I am delighted to finally have seen it.

Watchmen, is the most acclaimed graphic novel ever. It's recommened that you read the novel, as it's focuses on superheroes being exposed as real human beings, and making them relate to you.

Watchmen's unmasking of the conventional superhero archetype, combined with its innovative adaptation resulting in an almost cinematic orchestra , frequent and precise use of symbolism and transcending dialogue has influenced both comics and film.

Well, you've probably "experienced" movies, that you might have wished you didn't.

It's not your fault, most movies these days truly are dull and meaningless.

However, this blog will focus on those few features, that are actually worthy of your hard earned money ( or free ticket if you're a leech like me). If it's worth watching, I'll give you the heads up.
